Unit organisation suggestions for the 1805 – 1812 period if using the CWC Napoleonic Flames of War rules.

Austria
The Austrian military hierarchy did not grasp the tactics of Light infantry like other European armies. An Austrian Line Battalion does not have attached Light companies.
It was the habit of the Austrian commanders to gather all grenadier companies into makeshift grenadier battalions. An Austrian Line Battalion does not have attached Grenadier companies.

According to the Austrian General Mack ‘few if any regiment in 1789 were able to gallop far without becoming disordered’. This seems to have remained unchanged. Austrian cavalry units charging in wedge formation receive no +1 ‘to hit’ modifier.

Bavaria
It was not until the army reorganisation of 1811 that Light infantry (Voltigeur) companies were added to Bavarian battalions. A Bavarian Line Battalion does not have attached Light companies.

France
To counter the lack of experience of the new levies or conscripts, the War Department decide to break up the old three Battalion Regiments and combine them with two conscripts Battalions. Core Battalions: For every Steady Trained Line Battalion you must 1 Steady or Unsteady Conscript Line Battalion.

Russia
The Russian army contained many ‘Asiatic tribesmen’ cavalry such as the Circassians, Caucasian, Chinese Tartars, Kalmucks and Bashkirs. These units were armed and dressed in a variety of ways including chain mail, bows, spears or lances Upgrade to Light Medium cavalry +50pts.

Saxony
It had long been the practice to detach the Grenadiers and organize them into 'ad hoc' battalions for field operations; the only time an entire Regiment marched together was on the parade ground. A Saxon Line Battalion does not have attached Grenadier companies.

There were no light companies in a Saxon battalion at this time. A Saxon Line Battalion does not have attached Light companies.

Sweden
The Swedish army and its indelningsverk differed from contemporary armies in that it’s regular forces in terms of recruitment, pay, social composition, training, and deployment were divided into two different classes or types of units, indelta ("allotted") units and värvade ("enlisted"). The indelningsverk had been the cornerstone of the Swedish army and navy since the reign of Charles XI (1672 - 1697).
One of the main drawbacks of the indelta army was that it was never really large enough to defend the country, and since mercenaries were expensive this usually meant that some sort or reserve force had to be raised during each war. Several different systems of reserve recruitment had been tried and found to be inadequate and during the Napoleonic wars several systems would be tried; the last to be introduced, allmänna beväringen (approx. "general conscription"), was found satisfactory and kept until compulsory military service was introduced in 1901.

Indelta units are soldier farmers and can be either Unsteady Conscripts or Steady Trained.
Varvade units are professional soldiers often mercenaries or prisoners of war and can be either Steady Trained or Steady Veteran. Varvade units can be upgraded to Fearless Veteran.
Allmanna Bevaringen are classed as Unsteady Conscripts.
You must have one Allmanna Bevaringen infantry unit or Indelta unit for every Varvade infantry unit.

Allmanna Bevaringen troops can not change from column to square.
Allmanna Bevaringen and Indelta units must pass a ‘Motivation test’ after completing any formation change or remain stationary for an additional turn.
