Broken Sabres

Has this ever happened to you? In your excitement to see your new Russian Dragoon, you fumble it, and it hits the floor. And horror of horrors, the sword breaks completely off.

"Oh No!" you think, "It will never stay glued back on." They NEVER do. So here is what you can do. First get a straight pin and a hard, flat surface you can pound on. Get a cheap, soft pin---- the ones that come with men's shirts are perfect.

Now take a small hammer (like this ballpeen) and tap the end, flattening it. Turn it over and tap some more until about a half inch is flat.

Lay the broken piece beside it and mark the pin with a Sharpie so it is about 1/8th inch longer than the original.

Use a pair of diagonal cutters to cut it at the mark. Be sure to stick the pin into clay or a rag when you cut it, or the tip will go flying. ( It could fly where you will never find it, OR it could fly directly towards your eye.)

Now, if you look at the hilt where the sword broke off you will notice a small bump.

You will need to file it flat, and then use a sharp scribe to poke a point in the center of the hilt.

Now using a small drill bit the size of the pin, or slightly larger, carefully drill a hole through the hilt and into the hand.

Finally a little dab of CA, and glue the new blade in place. Just make sure it is coming out of the hand at a realistic angle.

And there you have it. Really easy to do and it looks great. You can even curve the blade for your Hussars. I think I might replace all my cavalry's blades this way.

you sir are a very clever chap and I have to agree your sword looks better than the original very nice tutorial if you have any more projects we would all love to see them Smile
