This poll concerns probably the most hotly contested topic on this forum---- What is the size of the smallest unit we wish to manuever in our games. Some here want a base to represent a company ( possibly with half-stands for skirmishers ) organized into battalions. There are others who champion fielding regiments comprised of two or three battalion stands. Some prefer to fight Grand Tactical battles with bases representing whole regiments or even brigades. ( Above that it gets pretty abstract, and is probably better played as a boardgame.)
So here is the poll question:
What is the smallest unit you wish a single base to represent?
Please vote, and feel free to tell us about your choice, even if you have already made your opinion known in another thread. Let's get all our eggs in one basket. |

I voted battalions organised into Regiments, but what I've been playing with is a number of bases representing a Brigade or Regiment. |

I'm with Wayne on this one...... Several teams, organised under a (British) Brigade or (French) Regiment/Demi-brigade. |

In a perfect world, I'd love to see one large (very cool looking) base represent a battalion.
If not this, two bases together representing a battalion. |

While this can look great, and be diorama-ed up nicely, I suspect it may play havoc with gameplay. For example: Formations, casualties and fitting on to nooks and crannies of a miniature battlefield.
Hence my belief in small bases as a standard..... |

I prefer company and half company making up a battalion.
I like lots of figures and colour on the board.
I also want some historical basis to the organisation not a one size fits all. |

I would like battalions AND regiments orginized into brigades and I still dont feel FOW bases feel right for the game I know I go on about it but when it is all said and done you will need a new basing system some of the other members know I am right and have said the same thing. The smallest represented unit should be skirmisher infantry .the largest single unit perhaps a regiment of cavalry . But then there is the artillery will there be grand batterys to pound your enemys into submission yes I can see them now box sets of bronze twelve pounders. when the BF machine does pick this bone up and decide to run with it, it will be a good thing for naps |
