What is the difference between flank and center companies if any? Is it training, position.....what?

The flank companies are the grenadier or light companies of a battalion, while the center(centre) companies are its line(foot) companies. |

Thank Dillingham. That was one of those elusive questions. Lots of books mention each company but not what the difference is.

Quite often there are Uniform differences between the two types as well. Usually, the Flankers are prettier....... you know, more lace and stuff...... Bunch of Flankers........................ |
