Has anyone tried out lists for a French in Russia Army? I was thinking that the Russian campaing be split into two periods - Napoleon's advance and Napoleons retreat. In the second period the Frenchies would be Reluctant Trained or something, to show all the hardships they had gone through.

Just my idea!

I don't know it depends on the Corps, I mean Davouts rear-guard had no time to be reluctant, I would say Fearless Trained- not the vetrans from 1805 but it was either fight these cossaks off or die.

As for Ney well he fought off many attacks by the Russians allowing the other units to flee.

SO if a Rear-Guard army I would say Fearless Trained, Fearless to represent that its kill or be killed. If not a Rear-Guard force then yes Reluctant Trained as all they want to do is go home.

Ney is my absolute favorite general!!! Have any of you read the books by G.A. Henty? He wrote in the 1890's and some of his books have been re-published. It is interesting to read about how he thinks of the French - sort of like a modern American writing something about the Germans in WWII.

Really, Ney? My fouvourite is Davout followed by Lannes. I've got Chandlers 'The Campaigns,' John Elting's 'Swords around a Throne, Napoleon's Grande Armee' and a book on the whole Bonaparte family from Napoleons I's dad to the family in WWII.

All are really interesting reads.

Pavlov, the Cossack general is one of my favorites. He's the one responsible for the constant harsement of the French on the retreat from Russia. I'd love to see an option in the Russian List for Cossack cavalry. They could be reluctant trained for the Don Cossacks and reluctant conscript for all other styles of Cossack. They should get extra movement since they rarely worried about staying in formation.

I'm partial to Davout as well.
I started out in this period not being a fan of the French at all, but I don't think one can read very much about the period and the people involved and not grow a healthy respect (or even admiration) for them.
